Abstract
The development of linguistic skills is the main focus of a training program. The objective is to increase the uniform and coherent application of EU competition law by national judges. Both judicial and linguistic skills are important: the project focuses especially on the latter skills, in order to:
- make judges understand problems related to multilingualism
- improve the judges’ language skills in at least one language (en)
This should reduce the linguistic barrier. Whatmore, national judges should feel more confident when
- reading in English, which is instrumental for a proper application of EU legislation and case-law (developing a multilingual approach)
- reading in other languages they know for personal skills, becoming aware of peculiarities of legal language
- comparing/sharing judicial experiences contributes to a uniform interpretation and application of EU competition law
