Ricerca

Research Activity

Barbara Giussani research activity started in the field of analytical chemistry developing fast and non-destructive analytical methods suitable for the determination of inorganic and organic species in contexts where the sample manipulations should be reduced or even avoided. Multivariate and multi-way qualitative and quantitative data analysis methods were developed and used in data analysis from the very beginning of her activity.

Knowledge and experience in multivariate modelling give her the opportunity to conduct research work in Environmental Sciences, Catalysis, Biology, Food Sciences, Sensory and Consumer Sciences, Energy science, Cultural Heritage and Archaeology fields as shown by her publications, and to collaborate as consultant with several national and international industrial realities.

In recent years her research interests are mainly focus on the two areas of:

(i) control process strategies through multivariate analysis
(ii) design and development of smart analytical strategies to solve real-world problems, from sampling to data analysis. Infrared and near-infrared spectroscopies, especially using portable sensors, are the techniques that most uses being the most suitable for the type of research she deals with.

She has published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers, and has presented several contributions in many international symposiums, congresses and conferences. She is member of the Società Chimica Italiana and the Italian Chemometric Society.
