Laureato in Scienze Biologiche nel 1992 presso l'Università degli Studi di Milano. Dal 1992 al 1995 dottorando di ricerca in Scienze Naturalistiche ed Ambientali svolgendo ricerche in ambito eco-etologico, poi borsista e collaboratore esterno del Dipartimento di Biologia Strutturale e Funzionale dell'Università dell'Insubria sede di Varese. Dal 1998 al 2003 Ricercatore Universitario dello stesso Dipartimento. Dal 2004 al 20011 Ricercatore presso il Dipartimento Ambiente-Salute-Sicurezza dell'Università degli Studi dell'Insubria, titolare degli insegnamenti di Biogeografia, Analisi e Gestione della Fauna Terrestre, e Tecniche di Rilevamento Dati Ambientali (modulo di Zoologia) per il Corso di Laurea in Analisi e Gestione delle Risorse Naturali (sede di Varese) e per il Corso Interfacolta di Scienze dell'Ambiente e della Natura e Laurea Magistrale in Scienze Ambientali (sede di Como). Conduce ricerche nel campo della zoogeografia, ecologia comportamentale, interazione uomo-fauna e conservazione di specie rare o minacciate o di interesse gestionale in particolare di piccoli e medi Mammiferi; si è altresì occupato di ricerche di etologia degli Imenotteri solitari. Ha partecipato alla progettazione ed allo svolgimento di progetti di ricerca di ecologia e conservazione della fauna ed in particolare in ambienti prealpini e alpini. Ha inoltre partecipato a progetti di ricerca in Africa (Tanzania), in particolare sullo studio, gestione e conservazione di Roditori e Carnivori. Ha fatto parte del Gruppo di Lavoro “Gestione della Fauna nei Parchi” della Regione Lombardia - Direzione Generale Tutela Ambientale Servizio Risorse Energetiche e Ambientali e Tutela dell'Ambiente Naturale e Parchi (Decreto R.L. N° T1 2746 - 5546 del 21 ottobre 1998), e ha partecipato alla definizione ed alla stesura delle parti tecniche in allegato alla Delibera Regionale (20 aprile 2001 - N. 7/4345, Boll. Uff. Reg. Lomb. Anno XXXI N. 136) “Programma Regionale per gli Interventi di Conservazione e Gestione della Fauna Selvatica nelle Aree Protette” in particolare per gli aspetti inerenti ai Mammiferi.
Nel settembre 2006 è nominato componente della Commissione Scientifica CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) per il triennio 2006-2009 (DEC/1618 del 22 settembre 2006).

I received the Bachelor's degree in Biology in 1992 at the State University of Milan. From 1992 to 1995 I worked as a PhD fellow at the Department of Biology, State University of Milan and I received my PhD in Natural and Environmental Sciences in November 1996 defending a PhD thesis with the title "Eco-ethology of four species of Hymenoptera: Ammophila sabulosa and Oxybelus argentatus (Hymenoptera: Sphecidae), Anoplius infuscatus and Episyron albonotatus (Hymenoptera: Pompilidae) in the Upper-Valtellina (Sondrio, Italy)". In 1996-1997 I was a Post-Doctoral fellow at the faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences of the State University of Milan, Varese branch.
In 1998 I obtained my current position of Assistant Professor at the University of Insubria, Varese (Italy). From 1998 to June 2004 at the Department of Structural and Functional Biology, and from June 2004 onwards at the Department of Environment, Health and Safety. I hold the following courses: Biogeography, for the Bachelor degree in Natural Sciences, and Zoogeography for the Masters degree in Environmental Sciences. Research interest are on small and medium-sized mammals, in particular mammal ecology, ethology and conservation focused on conservation, management and population and behavioral ecology of Italian bats. I am currently participating in several studies on habitat-species relationships of forest mammals in the Alps. Further interest are in management and conservation of rare and endangered species and in habitat and wildlife management. Since 1999 I am member of the steering commitee on "Wildlife Management in protected areas" of Lombardy Region. I was designated as member of Italian CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) Scientific Board for the 2006-2009 mandate.
